Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) is a heterodimeric transcription factor that regulates
transcriptional activation of several genes responsive to the lack of oxygen, including
erythropoietin, vascular endothelial growth factor, glycolytic enzymes, and glucose
