Publisher Summary The two final steps in the complex process of thyroid hormone
biosynthesis are iodination of tyrosines to form monoiodotyrosine and diiodotyrosine and
coupling of two iodotyrosines to form thyroxine (T 4) or triiodothyronine (T 3). The tyrosines
that bind the iodine are linked by peptide bonds in the thyroglobulin molecule. The iodine is
resorbed from the alimentary canal in the form of iodide and concentrated in the thyroid.
