A model for biocompatibility and its evaluation

Abstract Concepts of biocompatibility have changed radically in recent years. This paper
describes these new concepts and the present knowledge of the components and mediators
of biocompatibility and leads to the development of a model for the explanation and
rationalization of these phenomena. Of particular importance is the question of the
