Mutual adhesion of animal cells is intimately linked to Wnt signaling through a shared
component: β-catenin, or Armadillo in Drosophila. Recent work indicates how β-catenin
shifts from cell adhesion to Wnt signaling, a switch associated with epithelial–mesenchymal
transitions and cancer.
