The two major hypotheses for the pathogenesis of amphotericin nephrotoxicity are direct
interaction with epithelial cell membranes and vasoconstriction. Studies indicating the
special vulnerability of the medullary ray and medulla to hypoxia led to a reexamination of
amphotericin nephrotoxicity. Twenty-four rats were divided into four groups: amphotericin
