While transplantation research continues to focus on the development of Treg-sparing and
plasma cell/B-cell–targeting strategies to improve long-term outcomes, little attention has
been paid to the emerging role of the TH 17 cell in mediating chronic rejection. This review
aimed to summarize the recent emergence of the TH 17 and the newly described TH 1/17
cell as major players in transplantation and to suggest ways of improving graft outcome
through TH 17-targeted immunosuppression.
Abstract
While transplantation research continues to focus on the development of Treg-sparing and plasma cell/B-cell–targeting strategies to improve long-term outcomes, little attention has been paid to the emerging role of the T H 17 cell in mediating chronic rejection. This review aimed to summarize the recent emergence of the T H 17 and the newly described T H 1/17 cell as major players in transplantation and to suggest ways of improving graft outcome through T H 17-targeted immunosuppression.
