Hypoxia in adipose tissue has been postulated as a possible contributor to obesity-related
chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, and metabolic dysfunction. HIF1α (hypoxia-
inducible factor 1α), a master signal mediator of hypoxia response, is elevated in obese
